El año de la persistencia documenta la incertidumbre y supervivencia de la industria cinematográfica
Una imagen de las características butacas rojas de las salas de cines, completamente vacías, aparece en la pantalla. Las luces están apagadas. No hay sonidos envolventes ni espectadores con cotufas. El escenario es desolador e incierto: así se veían los cines en Venezuela durante el cierre de los complejos por causa de la cuarentena del covid-19. Es así, también, como inicia el más reciente largometraje documental del crítico, documentalista, profesor y director de cine Sergio Monsalve, El año de la persistencia.Era 12 de enero de 2021 cuando Monsalve, con ayuda en la producción de Malena Ferrer, comenzaron a documentar el proceso de reapertura de las salas tras 10 meses de desolación e incertidumbre. En ese entonces, la industria del cine nacional había lanzado la campaña «Quiero ir al cine» en los meses de noviembre y diciembre de 2019. El propósito era solicitar a las autoridades la reapertura de las salas. Rápidamente, cultores, productores, críticos, distribuidores y aficionados se sumaron a la movida, Monsalve entre ellos, para volver al encuentro con las salas el Día Nacional del Cine, el 28 de enero.«La campaña fue promovida por los gremios y también las cadenas de exhibición. Nosotros participamos activamente como una manera de refrendar esa militancia positiva. Tomamos la decisión de hacer un registro documental a modo también de expresión y ese registro se prolongó por un año, por eso el documental se llama El año de la persistencia. En ese tiempo estuvimos entrevistando a diferentes voceros de la plataforma del cine y expertos en la materia», comenta Monsalve.Durante los siguientes doce meses el crítico se encargó de entrevistar a 25 personas relacionadas para su largometraje de 70 minutos. Edgar Rocca, José Pisano, Claudia Lepage, Bernando Rotundo y Maurizio Liberatosciolli fueron algunos de ellos que, ante la cámara de Monsalve, dieron su opinión sobre los retos y dificultades que el cine estaba enfrentando por causa de la pandemia. Todos vinculados con el sector.También se incluyeron las voces, entre muchos otras, de Margot Benacerraf, Joe Torres, Simón Villamizar, Jorge Roig, Iván Mendez, Marcy Rangel, Rafael Urdaneta y Carmela Longo.«Seleccionamos a los voceros en función de su experticia, su relación directa con la plataforma del cine y obviamente se tuvo en consideración los pilares que sostienen el cine en Venezuela: plataformas de exhibición, distribución, producción y gremios.
