Resumen
En este texto se analizan las trayectorias de viajeros y migrantes al sur de México,
particularmente se muestran trayectorias de jóvenes que se encuentran recluidos en
Chiapas, el énfasis no está en su internamiento ni en el origen del mismo, sino en mirar los
contextos de una vida familiar marcada por las experiencias migratorias y por la búsqueda
individual del cambio. El artículo se divide en tres apartados, el primero caracteriza la
frontera sur de México a la vez que se articula la discusión de frontera y migración. El

segundo apartado, muestra las trayectorias de los jóvenes viajeros y migrantes desde
Chiapas y Centro América. El tercer apartado esquematiza los elementos que muestran a
la migración y al trabajo en los EEUU como parte nodal en las representaciones del mundo
que estas familias elaboran.

Abstract
Travelers and migrants from Mexico’s south border. Youngsters looking for a place to
change. On the following text, travelers and migrant’s paths in south Mexico are analyzed,
particularly, paths of youngsters who are imprisoned in the Mexican state of Chiapas, the
emphasis is not on the reason of their imprisonment neither in the aforementioned, instead
is in the observation of the contexts of a familiar life marked by migratory experiences
and the individual search of a change. The articled is divided in three segments, the rst
characterizes the Mexican south border while articulates the discussion of border and
migration. The second segment shows the youngsters path from Chiapas and Central
America. The third segment schematizes the elements that show the migration and work
in the United States of America as a nodal part in the representations of the world that
these families create.

Frontera y migración. La frontera sur de México
Los estudios de migración en México tienen una genealogía que
ha mirado los desplazamientos hacia el norte, especícamente se ha
mostrado a un sujeto masculino trabajador que cruza las fronteras
nacionales hacia los Estados Unidos. De manera muy general, pensar
en los temas de migración en México es pensar en miles de mexicanos
buscando la inserción laboral en los Estados Unidos, principalmente a
través del cruce no autorizado, o de la participación laboral no autorizada.
En esta tendencia, la migración se ha volcado hacia su aspecto del cruce
de las fronteras nacionales, relejando o disminuyendo la centralidad de
la migración regional interna o de los otros puntos fronterizos del país;
