Resumen
El presente capítulo tiene como objetivo exponer la impor-
tancia de la democratización de los medios de comuni-
cación en Colombia, con el fin de aportar a la construcción
de una comunicación que contribuya a la transformación de
la violencia simbólica por la cultura de paz. El documento
comienza dando claridad conceptual respecto a lo qué es la
comunicación y los medios de comunicación. Más adelante
realiza un abordaje descriptivo acerca del papel político que
han desempeñado los medios de acuerdo a los intereses que
representan en el marco del conflicto armado, finalmente
se explican las características de la comunicación popular,
presentándose algunas de las propuestas comunicaciones
que existen en la actualidad en la ciudad de Cúcuta a partir
de las cuales se promueve la reconciliación.

Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to expose the importance
of the democratization of the means of communication in
Colombia, in order to contribute to the construction of a
communication that contributes to the transformation of
symbolic violence by the culture of peace. The document
begins by giving conceptual clarity regarding what is
communication and the means of communication. It later
makes a descriptive approach about the political role that the
media have played according to the interests they represent
in the context of the armed conflict, finally the characteristics
of popular communication are explained, presenting some
of the communications proposals that currently exist in the
city of Cúcuta from which reconciliation is promoted.
