ABSTRACT
This study analyzed the causes of occupational stress in 51 secondary school teachers
in Sinaloa, using a mixed approach (quantitative-qualitative) and the adapted ILO-WHO
questionnaire. The results showed that 56.86% presented intermediate stress, 35.29%
low stress, and 5.88% high stress. Significant correlations were identified between stress
and three factors: workload (r = 0.843, p < 0.001), number of students (r = 0.809, p <
0.001), and institutional support (r = -0.721, p < 0.001). Teachers with workdays >40 hours
and large groups (>250 students) reported greater stress, while institutional support
mitigated its impact. Variables such as age, sex, and experience did not show significant
associations. It is concluded that educational policies should prioritize reducing
administrative burden, optimizing student-teacher ratios, and strengthening institutional
support to promote healthy work environments. The study underscores the need for
structural rather than individual interventions.
Descriptors: Teacher stress; workload; institutional support; secondary education.
