RESUMEN
Una de las alternativas propuestas para el impulso de actividades que contribuyan al desarrollo
sustentable y sostenible se refiere a la posibilidad de reutilizar, renova r o reciclar los productos,
prolongando la vida útil de los mismos y, aminorando así, la velocidad en la que se generan
residuos contaminantes. A este proceso se le conoce como economía circular y se presenta
como una opción válida a la hora de fomentar el desarrollo social y agroindustrial, en Ecuador,
en aquellas regiones que exhiben características propensas para potenciar una diná mica
socioproductiva con ese modelo. En ese sentido, el objetivo de este artículo es identificar en la
literatura existente sobre el tema, las dimensiones teórico-concept uales de la propuesta de EC,
a la luz de la importancia que tiene hoy día para el desarrollo social y agroindustrial en el contexto
ecuatoriano. Metodológicamente, el texto es el producto de una revisión documental exhaustiva
que se detiene en los aspectos relacionados con los elementos del desarrollo agroindustrial y
social implicados en el proceso inherente a la economía circular, todo ello según algunos autores

que han estudiado el tema y se encuentran referenciados en motores de búsqueda como Google
Académico y Dialnet. Los resultados se muestran en matrices analíticas que contrastan los
elementos teóricos con algunas realidades de Ecuador, en la medida en que esto puede ser una
muestra de las posibilidades reales de concretar modelos de desarrollo social y agroindustrial
alternativos para los pobladores del subcontinente, especialmente aquellos que han habitado,
desde tiempos inmemoriales en el país.

Circular economy for agroindustrial and social development in Ecuador
ABSTRACT
One of the alternatives proposed to promote activities that contribute to sustainable development
refers to the possibility of reusing, renewing, or recycling products, prolonging their useful life
and, thus, reducing the speed at which they are generated polluting waste. This process is known
as the circular economy and is presented as a valid option when it comes to promotin g social
and agro-industrial development in Ecuador, in those regions that exhibit characteristics prone to
promoting a socio-productive dynamic with this model. In this sense, the objective of this article
is a critical analysis of the circular economy proposal in Latin America, with particular reference
to the potential for applying this approach in the agroindustrial and social development of
Ecuador. M ethodologically, the text is the product of an exhaustive docum entary review that
focuses on aspects related to the elements of agro-industrial and social development involved in
the process inherent to the circular economy, all according to some authors who have studied
the topic and are referenced in search engines such as Google Academic and Dialnet. The
results are shown in analytical matrices that contrast the theoretical elements with some realities
of Ecuador to the extent that this can be a sample of the real possibilities of realizing alternative
social and agroindustrial development models for the inhabitants of the subcontinent, especially
those whom They have lived in the country since time immemorial.

Introducción
El modelo de economía lineal que tiene un alto grado de impacto sobre la existencia de
los recursos naturales y el ambiente en general, ha venido siendo criticado y, en cierta medida,
modificado desde hace ya varios años. De hecho, ese patrón de producción se muestra
insostenible de cara a las necesidades crecientes de una población mundial y su impacto
negativo en el medio ambiente y la sociedad en general. En tal sentido, se hacen esfuerzos
desde diferentes áreas para fortalecer una forma de producción distinta que algunos autores han
denominado economía circular (Arroyo, 2018; Nahman et al. 2021; Antúnez et al. 2021; Ruiz
2022).
En ese orden de ideas, la economía circular (EC), tiene entre sus retos minimizar el
impacto ambiental de la producción y el consumo, al proponer entre sus principios la eliminación
