Historic Evolution of Human Resources Function
in Venezuela

Resumen
La administración de los Recursos Humanos constituye el resultado de una
serie de eventos a través del tiempo, sus inicios en Venezuela coinciden con la ex-
plotación del petróleo. Con la llegada al país de multinacionales petroleras arriba-
ron nuevas técnicas y prácticas administrativas, entre ellas, aquellas relacionadas
con el manejo del personal. A través del presente artículo conoceremos su evolu-
ción a través del tiempo desde el concepto del simple personal hasta llegar a nues-
tros días bajo el significado del capital humano, encontrándose en Venezuela uni-
dades de recursos humanos que reconocen el valor del conocimiento de su per-
sonal para contribuir con la estrategia del negocio.

Abstract
The Human Resources administration constitute the result of different
events, the beginning of this practice in Venezuela concurs with the petro-
leum exploitation. With the petroleum multinationals company’s arrival, new
techniques and administrative practices arrives too, including the related prac-
tices of personnel management. In this article you will know the evolution
through the time, since the sample concept of personnel until today below the
