MAGNIFICA HUMANITAS E INTELIGENCIA
ARTIFICIAL: UNA PRIMERA LECTURA

Resumen: La aparic ión, el 15 de mayo del presente año, de la primera encíclica
del papa León XIV ha causado verdadero impacto en la opinión mundial. Se trata
de un importante documento donde se aborda el impacto de la Inteligencia Artifi-
cial en las condiciones de la vida, desde la perspectiva fundamental del respeto y
la preservación de la persona humana. Las nuevas tecnologías y, en particular, la
IA, se entrelazan con el tejido de la vida, moldean los procesos de toma de deci-
siones e inciden profunda mente en el imaginario colectivo. Es necesario te ner cla-
ra conciencia de todo ello, discernir lo que favorece y lo que puede dañar a la per-
sona en la sociedad, e inten tar formular algunos criterios para orientar las accio-
nes al respecto. Aun a sabiendas de que se trata de una tecnología en cambio rápi-
do y cuyos procesos internos son difíciles de descifrar incluso para sus creado res.

Abstract: The first encyclical of pope Leon XIV came out on May 15th of the
current year. It had a profound impact on the public opinion worldwide. This
important document deals with the impact of Artificial Intelligence on life conditions
from the fundamental viewpoint of the preservation of the human person. The new
technologies, in particular AI, are intertwined with Oury life, give shape to decision-
making processes and have a deep influence on the collective imaginary. Hence the
necessity of having a clear conscience of these processes, discerning what fosters
the person and what can harm it, and to try to reach some criteria to guide action.
Even if we consider that it is a very rapidly changing technology and one whose
internal workings are difficult to decipher even to its creators.

La primera encíclica del papa León XIV, Magnifica humanitas, es un largo documento
(245 números), de un contenido rico y complejo, que hemos de procurar recibir.
Incluye principios, reflexiones, experiencias, orientaciones para la acción. En verdad, la
riqueza de su contenido exige de nosotros múltiples lecturas y una reflexión compartida.
No se trata, en ningún caso, de imponer nuestros esquemas (como a veces ocurre). Por
eso es muy favorable la oportunidad de este primer coloquio.

Esta primera encíclica del Santo Padre es una encíclica social, lo cual no puede dejar de
llamarnos la atención, porque no es lo usual.
Ha invocado, además, a León XIII y la Rerum novarum como un precedente que le si rve
de inspiración. De hecho, por eso el nombre asumido a raíz de su elección.
