Su tesis fue el libro La mentalidad venezolana de la emancipación , con un pró logo del filósofo Leopoldo Zea.Durante 26 años su carrera como investigador e historiador transcurrió en la Facultad de Humanidades de la UCV, donde dirigió el Instituto de Investigacio nes Hispano americanas y fue decano.
