Desde 1915 fue el cuartel militar conocido como Cuartel Bermúdez. En 1936 fue utilizado para la sede de una planta eléctrica, pero a finales de la década de los 50 la infraestructura fue utilizada para recluir a 350 personas en conflicto con la ley.
