PRÓLOGO
Creo que, sin lugar a dudas, la Filosofía comenzó con
el problema del conocimiento; ese es el momento en que
se puede hablar ya de un ser humano. La reexión sobre
el conocimiento fue lo que nos hizo humanos. Por eso me
parece que puede ser útil una divulgación elemental del tema
gnoseológico, tocando de pasada la distinción metafísica entre
monismo y dualismo, tal como se presentó en los pueblos que
más tarde conformaron la civilización occidental. Ese es el
tema de este ensayo.
Está pensado para un público general, que quiera acercarse
al conocimiento en términos accesibles. Puede ser leído por
personas que no sean expertas en losofía, pues se presenta
lo esencial del realismo y el idealismo con palabras muy
sencillas. Sin embargo, creo que se ofrecen unas pocas
novedades: la crítica a ciertos autores, por la incoherencia en
la mezcla de monismo y dualismo en una misma cultura, y
el señalamiento de errores en algunos aspectos ontológicos,
en que incurren otros. También, la conexión que veo entre
las teorías del conocimiento y los rasgos de los dos pueblos
principales del mundo occidental, es algo que no se suele
tratar y que puede ser interesante.
El hombre, en sus comienzos, no podía menos que
preguntarse por el origen de todo lo que hay y tuvo que
imaginar explicaciones, que seguramente fueron comentadas
