Resumen. Desde la perspectiva sociológica, el turismo deportivo es mucho más
que una práctica atlética, representa un entramado simbólico en el que las vivencias cor-
porales reejan las estructuras sociales complejas. Este fenómeno facilita que individuos
busquen emociones, pertenencia y reconocimiento a través del deporte, transformando
el cuerpo en un vehículo de comunicación social. Utilizando un método documental
y hermenéutico, el objetivo de la investigación consiste en analizar el fenómeno del tu-
rismo deportivo desde la teoría de las conguraciones sociales desarrollada por Norbert
Elias y Eric Dunning, con el n de comprender las dinámicas interdependientes entre
ocio, deporte y civilización, así como los signicados socioculturales que emergen en
las prácticas y experiencias contemporáneas de los actores vinculados a dicho tipo de
turismo. En las conclusiones, se muestra que esta forma de turismo signica un espacio
donde se debaten y actualizan el autocontrol, la ética corporal y las formas legítimas
de excitación, todo dentro de contextos relacionales que promueven tanto la disciplina
institucional, como el disfrute y la aventura. Así, las costumbres y normas asociadas a
esta práctica reejan una tendencia contemporánea a normalizar la moderación y el au-
tocontrol, y revalorizan en cada experiencia el papel social del deporte y el tiempo libre.
