Decreto Nº 4.545, mediante el cual se declara Reserva de Fauna Silvestre Macanao, una porción del territorio nacional, ubicada en el Municipio Península de Macanao del estado Nueva Esparta, con una superficie de Doce mil Trece hectáreas con Ochenta y Cinco áreas (12.013,85 ha), la cual tiene por objeto conservar una muestra de los ecosistemas macro térmicos del estado Nueva Esparta y fomentar el manejo de las poblaciones de especies de interés ecológico, científico y genético, presentes en el área, en particular, la cotorra cabeciamarilla (Amazona barbadensis), el ñángaro (Aratinga acutícaudata neoxena), la culebra brazo negro (Drymarchon margaritae), la lagartija verde rayada (Cnemidophorus senectus) y el venado caramerudo de Margarita (Odocoileus margaritae)
