Derrame de petróleo | Incalculable devastación en Morrocoy: dolor en el fondo del mar
Entre 10.000 y 40.000 barriles de petróleo, mucho más que el vertido en la Isla Mauricio, se derramaron en las costas del estado Falcón y Carabobo.El ecocidio en El Parque Nacional Morrocoy podría ser irreversible. Es más, estos derrames de petróleo pondrían en peligro no solo la flora y fauna venezolana, sino afectaría al mundo en su máxima expresión.Las consecuencias son incalculables y a gran escala. Expertos e investigadores consultados por El Nacional coinciden en que la destrucción de cientos de especies marinas es devastadora. El vertido del hidrocarburo, que aún se desconoce el tipo, se produjo justo en el momento en que los corales y otras especies marinas comenzaban su proceso de reproducción.Estrella Villamizar, bióloga investigadora del Instituto de Zoología y Ecología Tropical de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, aseguró que la presencia del hidrocarburo en la superficie muy probablemente haría inviable los huevos de corales, y evitará la deriva natural de las larvas.Qué tan grave será el derrame de petróleo"El derrame que actualmente cubre parte de las aguas del parque lamentablemente coincide con uno de los cuatro meses en que se reproducen la mayoría de las especies de corales (julio-octubre), en un evento extraordinario donde la reproducción es masiva. La presencia del hidrocarburo podría significar que el repoblamiento por corales se vería seriamente disminuido", advirtió.En el caso de los arrecifes coralinos muchas son las consecuencias negativas que puede producir un derrame de petróleo.
