Tiburones y rayas enfrentan nuevos peligros en aguas venezolanas
El 6 de enero de 2017 videos de la captura de un tiburón ballena Rhincodon typus en el pueblo costero de Puerto Francés, en el estado de Miranda, se difundieron a través de las redes sociales. Lo que entonces parecía el rescate de un inmenso animal terminó por ser el intento de un grupo de pescadores por capturarlo, frenado por la indignación de los turistas que presenciaban la escena. Los pescadores devolvieron al tiburón ballena al mar y aseguraron que el animal cayó accidentalmente en la red. Sin embargo, el grupo ambientalista Venezuela Submarina asegura que no es la primera vez que algo así ocurría.
